RTW Monson Swimming Club Finish Season On A High

11th August 2017

RTW Monson took six athletes to Swim England’s Summer National Meet, held at Sheffield's Ponds Forge International pool.

Caitlin Fearon was the first swimmer to participate at the meet, racing in the 400m individual medley, finishing just outside the final, in 11th place overall in the 17 plus age group.

On day two, Andre Strydom made the final in 100m butterfly, and finished seventh with a personal-best time of 1:01.80. On day five, he also qualified for the final in the 200m backstroke and the 50m butterfly event, finishing tenth and fifth respectively.

RTW Monson's newest and youngest qualifier for the meet, Fern Sneddon, participated in the 50m multi-disability event. Fern finished in a fantastic 4th place in the 11-year-old age group, with a personal best time of 49.61.

Thomas Leman, following on from his bronze medal at British Championships a week earlier, swam in the 200m individual medley, finishing 16th overall in the 15 year age group. Kent County medallist Hannah Lambert also swam a gutsy 200m butterfly on day four, finishing in 16th place overall. Fellow British Championships qualifier Mia Burns swam in the 50m butterfly sprint, finishing 16th in the 15 year age group category.

Head coach Simon Morley said after the meet," It's been a long two weeks of racing for the athletes and I am really proud of what they achieved. The new season starts in less than a month and we will be aiming to be in more finals, and to achieve more medals in this competition next summer."

This rounds off a two week period of great achievement for RTW Monson. With a record number of medals from British Championships and Swim England's summer national meet, the future of Kent swimming is looking very bright.

Head coach Simon Morley also added, "The strong work ethic and desire of the RTW Monson athletes is making waves nationally and internationally. We have a group of dedicated athletes who are only going from strength to strength. I have no doubt in my mind that next year RTW Monson will be back at British Championships and the Summer National meet, with the tenacity to achieve even more success."
