RTW Monson celebrate return of Kent relays

Last month Kent County were able to host their swimming relay event for the first time since pre-Covid, so swimmers from across the county were delighted to meet up to race as teams at Glass Mill Centre in Lewisham, south east London.

It was a lively meet with plenty of excited supporters and RTW Monson’s team for 22 girls and 25 boys participated in a programme of events which covered all age groups, from 12 and under, 14 and under, 16 and under and open (those 17 and over). The teams enjoyed a great day, with the girls racing in the morning and the boys in the afternoon, and came home with some impressive results.

The girls 14 and under A team secured first place, taking home gold medals and a trophy for both the 4 x 50m Freestyle relay (Bella Jones, Julia Elvidge, Georgie Henson and Lowri Williams) and the 4 x 50m Medley relay (Julia Elvidge, Lowri Williams, Zoe Tollit and Bella Jones). The 16 and unders also came first in both the 4 x 50m Freestyle relay and 4 x 50m Medley relay (Emilia Oliver, Amalie Smith, Chloe Edwards and Reese Huckle).

The Girls Under 14 and under B team also secured places in both finals (Nel Dziki, Olivia Cooley, Mae Davies and Billie Ballach) whilst the 12 and under girls also made both finals. (Elsie Saffer, Miriam Fok, Emily Tarr, Matilda Palmer, Safia Chaturvedi, Tigerlily Thwaites, Chloe De Saulles, Kayla Fornasier and Liza Hooton)

In the afternoon, the senior boys dominated the pool. The Open boys team, comprising Denys Mialkovskyi, Alex Tollit, Chengze Duan and Tom Hawkins, won the 5 x 50m Medley relay, and the team of Tom Hawkins, Ruben Cowley, Denys Mialkovskyi, and Hayden Annan took home the trophy for the 5 x 50m Freestyle relay. The 16 and under boys narrowly missed out on the first place, coming a strong second in both the 4 x 50m Medley (Jon Whitcomb, Aubry Armada Bennett, Aran Bissett and Charles Pressly) and earning themselves the silver medals in the 4 x 50m Freestyle relays (Aran Bissett, Aubry Armada Bennett, Charles Pressly and Freddie Martin-Young).

The 12 and under boys team (Jasper Yau, Phoenix Clary, Gabriel Marsh and Henry Webb) won the 4 x 50m Freestyle relay, bringing home gold, and the team racing in the 4 x 50m Medley relay (Phoenix Clary, Jasper Yau, Jax Marshall and Gabriel Marsh) came in second too, to round off a really successful meet.
